There are no confirmed cases of hantavirus in the U.S. but the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is monitoring 41 people for possible exposure following the deadly outbreak linked to the MV Hondius cruise ship, officials said May 14.
- The CDC said the individuals under monitoring fall into three groups.
- The first group consists of 18 passengers recently repatriated to facilities in Nebraska and Atlanta.
- The second includes 7 passengers who left the ship and returned home before the outbreak was identified.
- The third includes 16 people who may have been exposed while traveling on a flight from Saint Helena to Johannesburg with one infected passenger.
