Gas prices hit highest level in 4 years: How much are people paying at the pump?

Gas prices continue to climb, with the average price of a gallon of regular unleaded reaching its highest level in four years.

The average price of a gallon of gas today was $4.18, according to tracking site AAA. That’s the highest price since the start of the Iran war and the most since the early days of the Russia-Ukraine conflict in 2022 when the national average reached $5.02 per gallon.

The current national average is up 7 cents from yesterday and 17 cents from a week ago. A month ago, the average price of a gallon of gasoline was $3.98; a year ago it was $3.15.

Diesel costs remain high as well. The average price of a gallon of diesel is $5.46, up almost $2 a gallon a year ago. The highest recorded price for diesel was also in 2022 when it reached $5.81 a gallon.
