In making one of his least-believable talking points yet, Joe Biden has somehow come under the impression that it was actually Republicans behind the “defund the police” movement.
While speaking at the Finishing Trades Institute in Philadelphia, Biden told the crowd "MAGA Republicans are calling for defunding the police department and defunding the FBI now." He added, tongue-in-cheek; "That's a good one. I like that."
Some Republicans have expressed an openness to defunding the FBI in response to their numerous documented politically motivated abuses, and Democrats are desperately trying to equate with them defunding local police departments, which is absurd.
As everyone with a capacity for memory recalls, the 2020 “defund the police” movement’s “victories” were entirely in blue cities run by Democrat Mayors with Democrat city councils.
Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre tried to make this same ridiculous argument, that Republicans favor defunding police, just days earlier this month at a presser. Amusingly, back in 2021 she herself refused to publicly call on Democrats to stop pushing police defunding.
