Nine former FBI agents who investigated President Donald Trump’s handling of classified documents filed a federal lawsuit Thursday, alleging they were unlawfully fired because of their involvement in the controversial investigation.
The lawsuit, filed in U.S. District Court in Washington, claims FBI Director Kash Patel dismissed the agents over two days in February without following established disciplinary procedures.
“Plaintiffs were unlawfully terminated not for any cause or any legitimate reason, but only to satisfy the President’s personal vendetta,” attorney Abbe Lowell alleged in the lawsuit.
The agents claim they received no advance notice, hearing or opportunity to appeal their dismissals.
The lawsuit also cites statements by Attorney General Todd Blanche, who previously said the administration had “cleaned house” at the FBI by removing personnel connected to investigations involving Trump.
