Vladimir Putin will omit military hardware from this year’s victory parade for the first time in almost two decades, amid fears they could be targeted.
The Kremlin’s defence ministry confirmed late on Tuesday that Russia’s May 9 parade would be scaled back.
The national spectacle, which is treated as a tribute to the country’s military power, will exclude tanks, artillery and missile systems this year.
The ministry wrote on Telegram: “Students of the Suvorov military and Nakhimov schools, cadet corps, and the military hardware column, will not participate in this year’s military parade due to the current operational situation.”
