Senator Rand Paul released his annual "Festivus" list of grievances, a tradition inspired by the joke holiday from Seinfeld.
This year’s edition identified $1,008,313,329,626.12 in wasteful federal spending. Examples included a $12 million Las Vegas pickleball complex, $4 million toward Ukrainian influencers, $10.8 million on “Orwellian cat experiments” - and that’s just the tip of the iceberg. "It’s that time of year again. Happy Festivus! I’ve got a lot of problems with you people! And now, you're gonna hear about it," Paul wrote in a Twitter/X post.
Paul said it was tough to know where to begin, and listed incompetent Dr. Anthony Fauci, as well as President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, among his top targets. He also criticized the past and current House speakers. He first criticized former Speaker Kevin McCarthy for spending over $30 million attempting to defeat the lawmakers who voted him out last year. Paul also questioned why McCarthy continued to appear on television despite no longer holding the speaker’s position.It's that time of year again. Happy Festivus! When addressing Speaker Johnson, Paul made it clear that he was ready to criticize both him and those who put him in power. "As usual, I am right," Paul wrote. "I want to be the first to congratulate former Speaker Johnson, who will be gone before D.C. gets warm again."It's hard to decide where to start this year. Fauci? Maybe. He may be gone, but he's not forgotten. Biden? Which one? Harris? Trump? CONGRESS? So many targets, so little attention span this morning. It might break 40 degrees here in Kentucky today, so this might all be canceled…

Johnson has faced growing pressure to resign after just over a year in office, largely due to his handling of a potential government shutdown, which was narrowly avoided with a late-night vote on Friday.I noted last year that I would be roasting the next speaker and the gang who put him in power by this Festivus. Paul also took the opportunity to highlight ongoing concerns over the national debt in the report. "Last Festivus, we bemoaned the national debt nearing $34 trillion," he wrote. "In just a year, Washington’s career politicians and bureaucrats have managed to push it beyond $36 trillion—unsurprisingly, with hardly a second thought." He further elaborated on the rajectory of U.S. debt, pointing to alarming projections for future spending. "The Congressional Budget Office predicts we will add an average of $2.1 trillion in debt annually for the next decade," the report noted. "The U.S. government will add over $6.4 billion of debt every single day for the next ten years, borrowing over $268 million every hour, $4.5 million every minute, and over $74,401 every second."
