Reporting from Miranda Devine has revealed new emails showing that Dr. Anthony Fauci commissioned a scientific paper back in February 2020 to “debunk” the Wuhan lab leak theory for the origin of the COVID pandemic.
When Fauci spoke at a Coronavirus Task Force press briefing in April 2020, he cited a paper titled “The Proximal Origin of SARS-CoV-2” to claim that the lab leak was uncertain. No disclosure was made by Fauci that two months prior he commissioned and had final approval on that very paper, which was written with the specific agenda of “debunking” the lab leak. Fauci even pretended to not know who the authors of the study were, just that there was going to be a paper available coming to that conclusion.
As Devine writes:That paper, titled “The Proximal Origin of SARS-CoV-2,” was sent to Fauci for editing in draft form and again for final approval before it was published in Nature Medicine on Feb. 17, 2020.
It was written four days after Fauci, and his NIH boss Dr. Francis Collins, held a call with the four authors to discuss reports that COVID-19 may have leaked from the Wuhan lab and “may have been intentionally genetically manipulated.”
The House Oversight subcommittee published emails Sunday in which the paper’s co-author Dr. Kristian Andersen admits Fauci “prompted” him to write the paper with the goal to “disprove” the lab leak theory.
On Feb. 12, 2020, Andersen submitted the paper to Nature Medicine with a cover email: “There has been a lot of speculation, fear-mongering, and conspiracies put forward in this space. [This paper was] Prompted by Jeremy Farrah [sic], Tony Fauci, and Francis Collins.”
While testifying before Congress last month, Johns Hopkins professor of public health policy Dr. Marty Makary called the lab leak a “no-brainer,” explaining "The reason this is even an issue is that it's embarrassing we funded the lab. If we had not funded the lab, 100 percent of Americans would say this is obvious, this is a no-brainer.”
He added; "Two leading virologists ... told Dr. Fauci on his emergency call in January of 2020 when he was scrambling soon after learning that the NIH was funding the lab. They both said that it was likely from the lab. Both scientists changed their tunes days later in the media. And then both scientists received $9 million subsequent in funding from the NIH."
