Senate Judiciary Committee Advances Trump's FBI Director Nominee, Kash Patel.

The Senate Judiciary Committee, chaired by Senator Chuck Grassley (R-IA), has advanced Kash Patel‘s nomination to serve as President Donald J. Trump’s Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Patel’s committee vote was delayed one week after Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL) used a rule available to the committee’s minority party to place a hold over on the nomination.

After clearing the Judiciary Committee on a party-line vote, Patel’s nomination will now advance to the full Senate. After Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) files cloture on the nomination, the Senate will proceed to 30 hours of debate before a final confirmation vote on Patel is held. As it stands, it appears that Patel has secured a majority of Senators to support his nomination and should clear the chamber fairly easily.
