President Trump lambasted “the left” for spewing hatred that fed into Charlie Kirk’s assassination while adding Sunday that “major investigations” into groups of interest are already underway as part of the murder probe.
When asked about lefty groups possibly linked to Tyler Robinson, who’s accused of shooting Kirk at Utah Valley University last Wednesday, Trump lashed out at the political point of view as a whole.
“The problem? Is on the left, it’s not on the right, like some people like to say on the right. The problem we have is on the left,” he told reporters gathered on the tarmac at Morristown Airport in New Jersey.
“And when you look at the agitators, you look at the scum that speak so badly of our country, the American flag burnings all over the place, that’s the left. That’s not the right,” he said.
The probe into Kirk’s slaughter has expanded to pro-trans online groups and other organizations with which Robinson was allegedly affiliated, law enforcement sources told The Post.
One of the groups, Armed Queers Salt Lake City, scrubbed its social media after Kirk was killed.
A poster for an event previously hosted by the queer organization showed a young woman standing armed with a rifle not dissimilar to the one used by Robinson and wearing two sashes lined with bullets.
The lecture, dubbed “Queer Resistance,” replaced the “Q” with the hammer and sickle most commonly associated with communism.
Robinson’s reported live-in partner, who is transitioning from male to female, has been “incredibly cooperative” with authorities.
Utah Gov. Spencer Cox noted that investigators are looking into the pair’s relationship as playing a part in Robinson’s possible motivation.
Other posts online alluding to Kirk’s demise have raised flags about whether a wider organization knew about Robinson’s plan ahead of the assassination. The posts have also cast doubt on whether Robinson truly acted alone.
Some included vague threats, or hopes that something would prevent Kirk from hosting his debate at UVU.
“Charlie kirk is coming to my college tomorrow i rlly hope someone evaporates him literally,” one read.
The chilling posts littered all over X weren’t lost on Trump, who noted that the left has taken a twisted approach to handling Kirk’s demise.
“We wouldn’t celebrate if something happened on their side, and we don’t. These are sick people. These are really deranged people,” he said.
When Minnesota Democrat Melissa Hortman was assassinated alongside her husband and dog in June, Trump denounced the “horrific violence,” adding that it wouldn’t be tolerated in the US. However, he refused to call the state’s Gov. Tim Walz at the time because “he’s a mess” and it would “waste time.”
