Trump pays tribute to Iran war dead and vows Tehran 'will never have a nuclear weapon' in Memorial Day speech

President Donald Trump commemorated Memorial Day on Monday with an appearance at Arlington National Cemetery, where he paid tribute to the 13 US servicemembers who died in the Iran war.

This year's Memorial Day is the first since Trump ordered military action in Venezuela and a larger assault on Iran following last June's bombing of three Iranian nuclear sites.

On Saturday, Trump announced that the US was getting closer to a deal with Iran that could close out the war.

The Iran war started in late February with joint US-Israeli strikes, with the President originally saying that it would only last a matter of weeks.

'In two wars recently, we've lost a total of 13 service members,' Trump told the crowd.

'In Venezuela, which was a complete and total victory. We're working very closely with the Venezuelan government right now. We took that over in one day. Lost no one,' the President said.
